Physics - Unit 4
Forces and Newton's Laws of Motion
In this unit we welcome back Isaac Newton to our physics classroom. We will learn more about forces and learn about specific types of forces such as friction and tension. Newton’s Laws of Motion will introduce new methods for investigating real-life situations by considering the external forces acting on an object.
BY THE END OF THIS UNIT, you should be able to:
state Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion.
draw a Free-Body Diagram (FBD) of an object showing the force(s) acting on the object.
Use FBDs and Newton’s Laws to determine Net Force and acceleration of an object.
Use FBDs and Newton’s Laws to solve real-world problems involving friction, applied forces and tension.
